Playing at Home…. stead

I’m not sure why I don’t play Homestead more often. It offers some of the best views of the front range and Denver, is generally always in great shape, and the course is challenging despite it’s relatively low yardage and slope rating. It’s one of what I like to call an “in-betweener”. That is, it’s got some regulation length par 4’s with a number of par 3’s (the common term for this is “executive” but what that means I’m not entirely sure). It does offer one par 5 of decent length as well (553 from the tips). Overall I just like the fact that you can really hone your irons and short game while still getting a few cracks at the driver.
I’m not opposed to playing the par 3 courses (I particularly like Englewood), but it’s nice to take out the driver or 3 wood while also mixing in those long irons. #5 is one of those holes that make it so fun to play this course. A slightly elevated tee that just begs you to hit it long! Now I’m not classifying this course in any particular way. I think the yardage - 5098 from the tips - can be a bit misleading. When the wind is up, this course has some bite, and some of the greens are quite difficult to read. Overall it’s just a fun place to play, and is definitely a unique “executive” course for the Denver area.
