South Suburban - Review

Overview
South Suburban Golf Course is located in Centennial and is operated by the South Suburban Parks and Recreation department. Not an overly long course from the back at 6793 yards, what it lacks in distance it makes up for with some of the faster more undulating greens around. You can consistently expect the greens to be guarded with either mounds of rough or traps. The protected fast greens make scoring on this course consistently difficult and you can expect to have your short game tested throughout your round. The course is relatively flat but on occasion you will find slight to moderate elevation changes. Water isn’t abundant, and really won’t factor into your shot decisions if at all. Trees however will come into view that at times might prove to be somewhat daunting (hole 11 in particular). During the hottest part of the season (July/August) the rough tends to dry out and the greens become increasingly faster.
Playability
What you’ll find is that most of the fairways offer a generous landing area. The teeth of this course are truly in and around the greens. Depending on placement some of the tee positions can be downright cruel (#4 front pin…). Playing this course early in the season is probably your best bet for pristine conditions. For whatever reason, during mid to end summer this course tends to dry out. It’s possible in part to some of the severe slope, either left to right or right to left on a number of the fairways that water might tend to run off rather than sink in. These sloping fairways are something to consider as well from the tees. A number of them do offer flat landing areas that a seasoned player of the course might help you find. Don’t worry though, the majority of the fairways are relatively flat in nature.
Conclusion
The course is relatively one of the cheaper facilities in the area to play. The executive at Highlands Ranch is comparable, but South Suburban is a 18 hole regulation course. It can be walked with a little effort, which can make the experience even less expensive. If you’re looking for a challenge to your short game this is an excellent track to pay a visit to, however it’s probably a more accurate test of your skills either early in summer or early in the fall.

[...] and check in early for your tee times. While the greens are tricky (comparisons have been made to South Suburban) they are not inconsistent in the way they roll. Some time spent at the practice green will pay big [...]
